Pranab Mukherjee, said, “It’s indeed a pleasure for me to be amidst you
this evening and to be associated with recognizing these 25 great
Indians. While going through their introduction and some of their
comments I found out that one striking commonality in all of them that
each and every one of them believes in hard work, honesty, commitment to
the job, idea to which they furnish. Therefore what is needed today and
what we can draw lessons from the outstanding performance of these 25
great Indians that we cannot have a shortcut or a bypass to achieve the
success, to reach the top, to be the models of others.”
Addressing the ceremony, Dr, Prannoy Roy,
Executive Co-chairperson, said, “Am here tonight on behalf of everybody
at NDTV to thank every single one of you for your trust in us. When we
started the first private news on Indian television we were a bundle of
nerves, you gave us strength at that time. When we produced India’s
first 24 hour news channel 15 years ago, you trusted us then too and we
value that trust till today. Tabloidization is a worry but I feel there
is a back lash now. We hope and pray that sponsors and advertisers will
give greater weightage to content and avoid promoting tabloidization.
Finally looking ahead at the next 5 years, we believe that soft power
will become as important as hardware in global conflict. The time has
come to launch India’s version of CNN or BBC or Al Jazeera. NDTV as a
truly global channel in our sights, we need your faith, your support and
trust in this venture too. In a word what brings lump to our throats is
simply your trust. To cap all our emotions today, the 25 Greatest
Indian Living Legends have all come here tonight and just by accepting
our invitation, they have given the one most valuable thing – their
Trust.”
